PUMP TANKS - DOMESTIC

Pump Tanks are alternative system installed after the septic tank if the land has unsuitable soil, poor drainage or a difficult layout for typical trenches / drain fields. The purpose of the pump tank is to collect wastewater from the septic tank and disperse it to trenches / drain fields or a Domestic Holding Tank. 

A pump tank is typically small, made of concrete, fibre glass, or polyethylene with a submersible pump inside close to the inlet from the septic tank. The pump will have an automatic float switch; once the wastewater level reaches a specific height the pump will disperse the wastewater into drain field or a Holding Tank.     

Pump tanks need frequent cleaning to prevent a build-up of lint and sludge that can affect the life and reliability of the pump. The service frequency will depend on the effluent being dispersed through the tank and the efficiency and service frequency of the septic tank. A typical pump tank should be pumped out once a year and inspected regularly.
